Summary:
Job Summary: FF1 Apparatus LLC is a premier emergency vehicle sales and service company headquartered in Northern NJ. We are seeking an experienced and dedicated preventative maintenance technician to join our team. An ideal candidate will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance on emergency vehicles, including, but not limited to fire apparatus, ambulance and high water rescue vehicles. This position requires technical expertise in heavy trucks and a strong understanding of NFPA & DOT requirements regarding emergency vehicles.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience working with heavy trucks, preferably in emergency vehicles or similar heavy-duty vehicles.

  • Certifications: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) heavy truck Diesel Certification, and EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) certification preferred, but not required. *Must be willing and able to complete continuing education courses to achieve Master EVT level certification

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of heavy truck diesel engine operation, diagnostics, and repair techniques, as well as pump, aerial, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly diagnose problems, identify solutions, and provide parts and labor needed to complete repair.

  • Tools and Equipment: Proficient in using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools required for vehicle repairs and maintenance.

  • Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy parts and tools, work in confined spaces, and stand for long periods.

  • Communication: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for documenting repairs and interacting with team members and customers.

  • Work Environment: Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including outdoor work, and under potentially stressful situations when handling emergency vehicle repairs.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine preventive maintenance on emergency vehicles to ensure optimal performance and reliability. This includes changing oil, checking fluids, and inspecting all critical parts.

  • Troubleshoot and Repair: Use diagnostic tools and techniques to identify issues, troubleshoot problems, and make necessary repairs to emergency vehicles, ensuring that they meet safety standards when required

  • Diagnose and Repair: Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brakes, air conditioning, and other vehicle components.

  • Documentation: Accurately document all repairs and maintenance performed, including labor hours, parts used, and work completed.

  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all repairs and services meet applicable safety regulations, standards, and industry guidelines.

  • Customer Interaction: Communicate with vehicle operators and management teams to provide updates on repairs and address any concerns regarding the performance of the vehicles.

Compensation:
Competitive hourly rate based on experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Minimum 21 years of age with a valid DL (Class B CDL preferred) with a clean driving record

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or after-hours if needed for emergency repairs

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

MEDIUM WORK:  Lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and balancing.

WORK POSITION: Sitting 10%, standing 50%, and walking 40%.

WORK CONDITIONS: Spends approximately 75% of the time outdoors.


Compensation: To be determined by the experience of the candidate.
